About Us

Hub 21 (previously known as The Down Syndrome Centre North East or DSCNE) was founded in 2018 in response to a recognised need in the North East region for the provision of support and facilities for families and carers of young children with Down Syndrome.

Hub 21 based in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, provides free and heavily subsidised dedicated services specific to children with Down syndrome, and their families in Cavan, Monaghan, Louth, Meath & surrounding areas. Hub 21 is run by a voluntary board of directors & parents of children with Down syndrome.

We are committed to maximising transparency and demonstrating clear accountability in how we do our work.
As a result, we ensure full compliance with the Charities Regulator's Charities Governance Code and follow the guidelines and recommendations for charities published by the  Charities Regulator.

As a registered charity we must submit an annual activity report and annual financial returns to the Regulator. This annual reporting now includes a requirement to report on our compliance with the Charities Governance Code of which we are fully compliant. We must keep records up-to-date with the Regulator. You can search for us the register of the Charities Regulator using our Registered Charity Number (RCN) 20161132.

All our audited accounts are also shared as a blog post and updated annually which you can access from here : Annual Reports

Hub 21 has a voluntary Board of Directors; five members are parents of a child with Down syndrome and four are independent community representatives. We employee three part-time members of staff and sponsor three Community Employment and Tús scheme positions. The Hub 21 Manager reports directly to the board through the Chairperson. All other staff members are volunteers or independent contractors.

OUR GOAL
The core ethos of Hub 21 embraces Positivity – we strive to create a bright future where children and adults with Down syndrome are given support to reach their full potential and live independent and fulfilling lives.
Hub 21 provides family-centred support services to meet the individualised needs of all children and families; clinical therapies, family support services, education, information and advice. To find out more about the wide range of therapies and activities we provide please visit Our Services and Events to find out more.
We also have a huge focus on families. Hub 21 is a place for parents, siblings & extended family to meet, get information and advice. The heart of our hub is our family room and coffee dock which provides space for individuals to come together to form friendships, share experiences and form a peer support network.
We rely on fundraising to finance the running costs of the charity so we are appreciative of each donation, large or small. Without the support of our benefactors to date, we would not be where we are now. If you would like to support our charity please click here.
