Family Fun Day at Airbound 2026

On Sunday, 23rd August, we were delighted to return to Airbound for another Hub 21 Family Fun Day, welcoming 41 children and 36 adults for an afternoon of fun, food and, most importantly, time together.

While the children wasted no time getting stuck into the fun, one of the loveliest parts of the day was seeing the connections happening all around us. New friendships were being made between children, siblings were enjoying the experience together, and parents had the opportunity to chat, share experiences and offer each other support – often without even realising that this was what was happening.

It was lovely to see this reflected in the feedback we received afterwards. One parent described their highlight as:

“Being with other families and chatting and sharing joy in achievements of their little ones and ours, in a fun and safe environment.”

We were also delighted to welcome some new faces to Hub 21. Family days like this can be a lovely, relaxed introduction to our community, giving new families the chance to meet other parents and children outside of a class or therapy setting and begin making connections with families who may share similar experiences. One response summed up just how important these relationships can become:

“Meeting up with the lifelong friends we have met through Hub 21. Thank you, we would be lost without this centre.”

For our existing families, it was another opportunity to catch up with familiar faces, meet families they may not have crossed paths with before and simply enjoy an afternoon together.

That sense of connection is a hugely important part of our family days. While the children are busy playing and having fun, conversations happen naturally between parents. Experiences are shared, advice is exchanged and sometimes simply knowing that another parent understands can make a real difference.

For siblings too, these days are an opportunity to have fun, make friends and be part of the wider Hub 21 community. It was particularly lovely to hear this recognised by families, with one parent commenting:

“It’s also lovely to see our typical kids all integrating together and playing with one another.”

We also heard about the confidence these opportunities can help children develop. For one parent, the highlight of the afternoon was simply:

“Seeing Grace head off to play with friends with such confidence!”

Of course, a family day wouldn't be complete without plenty of food! Once again, there was more than enough for everyone, and the team at Airbound were fantastic throughout the afternoon. Their friendliness, patience and interaction with the children helped make the experience enjoyable and relaxed for everyone. This was echoed in the feedback, with families describing Airbound as a great venue for children of different ages and abilities and praising the friendly and helpful staff.

We came away from the day with tired children, happy families, some new friendships and plenty of memories made. As one family put it, they had “very happy tired kids going home” – which is probably as good a measure of a successful Family Fun Day as any!

For us, that's what our Family Fun Days are really about – bringing the whole family together, creating connections and giving families a space where they can simply enjoy being together.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the National Lottery for funding our Family Fun Day and helping to make this wonderful afternoon possible. Their support enables us to create opportunities like this for our families – bringing children, siblings and parents together to have fun, build friendships, connect with others and make special memories as a family.

The feedback from our families shows just how valuable these opportunities can be, and we are incredibly grateful for the support that allows us to make them happen.
