Grow. Thrive. Shine. — Final Days to Experience Our Exhibition

It’s hard to believe that it has been three weeks since we launched Grow. Thrive. Shine, Hub 21’s first Down Syndrome Awareness Exhibition.

What began as a special launch evening has grown into something much more — a space where our community has come together to pause, reflect, and truly see the children and young people at the heart of Hub 21.

The exhibition features 44 incredible children and young people who attend Hub 21, each photograph capturing far more than a moment in time. Together, they tell stories of personality, resilience, joy, and possibility. Over the past few weeks, we have welcomed families, schools, local businesses, and members of the wider community through the doors of the Civic Offices in Carrickmacross. Many have shared how moving it has been to take time to look beyond the photograph — to see the individual, their strengths, and their potential.

At Hub 21, that is what this exhibition has always been about.

Seeing the child — not the diagnosis.

As the exhibition is coming to a close, it also coincided with World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March, a day that raises awareness and promotes inclusion worldwide. This year’s theme, loneliness, reminds us that while children with Down syndrome may be physically present in classrooms or social settings, they can still feel on the outside.

True inclusion goes beyond being present — it is about connection, friendship, and belonging.

It’s in the small, everyday moments: a child being invited to join a game, included in a conversation, or simply chosen.

Throughout the exhibition, we have encouraged conversations around this — including through the Lots of Socks campaign, where people wore bright, colourful, mismatched socks to spark discussions about inclusion and difference. It’s a simple gesture, but one that opens the door to meaningful conversations with children about empathy and belonging.

As we enter the final days of the exhibition, we would warmly encourage anyone who has not yet visited to take the opportunity to do so. Whether you are a member of the local community, a family, a supporter, someone interested in volunteering, or a business looking to connect and make a difference — you are very welcome.

Come and see the faces. Read the stories. Experience the personalities and the potential of the children we are so proud to support.

Because with the right support, opportunity, and belief — every child can grow, thrive and shine.
